Geriatric Activities
- Offered plenary sessions at the WOCN 2006 and 2007 annual congresses on geriatric nursing issues
- Provide links from WOCN Web site to geriatric resources including Hartford Institute Web site
- Members invited to join geriatric special interest group
- Created a Nurse Competence in Aging Award for members who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to care for older adults
Presentations, Workshops and Seminars
- Held a conference session at a 2005 regional meeting and the 2006 annual conference.
Education Modules, Programs and Learning Tools
- *Development of clinical practice guideline series on areas that are vital to WOCN's practice. 3 of the 4 guidelines have been released (The guideline for management of patients with lower-extremity arterial disease, the guideline for prevention and management of pressure ulcers and the guidelines for management of wounds in patients with lower-extremity neuropathic disease.)
- Enhance geriatric presence/educational learning opportunities on association website.
- Promote dual-certification in gerontological nursing.
- Develop competencies around care of older adults.
Awards
- Initiate a Nurse Competence in Aging Award for members who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to care for older adults.
