Geriatric Activities
- Conducted activities to increase the number of nurses certified in gerontological nursing, including convening focus groups to identify motivation and barriers to seeking certification, publishing articles in newsletters and journal on benefits of certification, promoting use of online NCA resources and certification preparation course, and conducting certification preparation workshops at NGNA’s annual meeting
- Provided consultation to specialty associations to incorporate language about care of older adults into Scope and Standards documents and collaborated with various associations to include gerontological content into their publications and meetings
- Provided technical review and endorsement of "Preparing Nursing Students to Care for Older Adults: Enhancing Gerontology in Senior-level Undergraduate Courses” for the Geriatric Nursing Education Faculty Development Institutes
- Participating on the advisory committee for the How to Try This Project, a collaborative project of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing and the American Journal of Nursing, which is providing resources to build knowledge and assessment skills among those caring for older adults
