Geriatric Activities

Rehabilitation Nurses help individuals affected by chronic illness or physical disability to adapt to their disabilities, achieve their greatest potential, and work toward productive, independent lives. Much of what we do involves the Geriatric Population, the following are recent highlights:

  • Ran a 12-part “Gerontology Update” Series in the ARN Network newsletter
  • Developed Role Description for “The Gerontological Rehabilitation Nurse”
  • Provide a Gerontology Special Interest Group to provide networking opportunities and help members remain current in this practice area
  • Developed the Professional Rehabilitation Nursing (PRN) Course that focuses on care that is critical to the geriatric population. In addition to a full chapter on “Rehabilitation of the Older Adult”, other topics include functional assessment, rehabilitation across the continuum of care, safety, stroke, and skin integrity.
  • Standards and Scope of Rehabilitation Nursing Practice includes an emphasis on care of the older adult.
