Geriatric Activities

• Developed workshop and concurrent sessions with geriatric focus at convention
• Increased publication of geriatric content in Journal of Vascular Nursing
• Formed a geriatric special interest group (SIG)

Publications and Position Statements

• SVN encourages manuscripts on geriatric related issues to be submitted to the Journal of Vascular Nursing (JVN).

Presentations, Workshops and Seminars

• The SVN National Convention in 2005 featured a presentation "Caring for the Elderly: Changing Perceptions and Attitudes."
• SVN will include geriatric-focused presentations at the 2006 SVN annual convention.
• SVN has continued to collaborate with the Vascular Disease Foundation to promote increased education among healthcare providers on vascular diseases.
• SVN is actively involved in the PAD coalition whose mission is to educate the public on PAD, the incidence of which increases with age.
• SVN will include geriatric assessment in an SVN-sponsored ABI pre-convention workshop

Special Interest Groups

• SVN will initiate a task force/geriatric special interest group dedicated to the geriatric population. Members will be recruited through announcements in the Society newsletter, e-newsletter, Web site and at the 2006 Convention. There will be a meeting of the task force at the scheduled session for Committee and task force meetings at the 2006 National Convention in Las Vegas, April 27-29, 2006.
